A group of Dorsett Shoals Elementary School fifth graders took top spot in the fall Stock Market Game, a ten-week, online simulation of real-world stock trading sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education. The 1st place team members, Madeline Norato, Tristin Morgan, and Kayana Joyner beat out 100 other teams in the 13th Congressional District by turning their $100,000 initial investment into $123,130.91!
Prior to participating in the competition, students learned about all things economics: supply and demand, profit and loss, competition, risk, how to read a stock table, and how to research investments. It is safe to say these winning students know how a market economy functions in today's society. This achievement is a testament to their ability to apply financial knowledge in a real-world context.
Jennifer Murray, Gifted Education Teacher at Dorsett Shoals Elementary, plays the stock market game each fall with her 5th grade students. She states, “Congratulations to all the students who triumphed in the Stock Market Game! Your hard work, strategic thinking, and dedication to learning have truly paid off. Navigating the ups and downs of the market can be a challenging experience, but you’ve demonstrated impressive skills in analyzing stocks, making informed decisions, and adapting to changing conditions. This achievement is a testament to your ability to apply financial knowledge in a real-world context. I hope you continue to use these valuable skills as you move forward, whether in your studies or future careers. Well done, and here's to many more successes in the world of finance!”
